NEED/IMPACT:
Super District 6 has previously funded Design Studio projects in partnership with the MicroLife Institute, Georgia Tech School of Architecture, led by Ellen Dunham-Jones, and Georgia Tech students in reimagining areas of DeKalb County by incorporating high performance urbanist principals and designing more walkable, community-oriented communities, ultimately retrofitting suburbia. This project is modeled after previous iterations of the project but will focus on aging in place solutions. Deliverables include final presentation events including resident participation and stakeholder review, compilation of student work products, stakeholder input, and engagement findings into a final Project summary package suitable for County use, and provision of materials and documentation necessary to support continuity and replication of the Project framework in future cycles.
Further, this project integrates with Georgia Tech coursework allowing students to have a hands on experience in creative, urban planning solutions and engages with DeKalb County residents to incorporate their vision for the county. This project will begin February 2 and finalize in May of 2026.
