PURPOSE:
.To allocate $52,173 from 2026 District 2 Reserve for Appropriation to Trellis Horticultural Therapy Alliance to support the Ability Garden Program at Legacy Park.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Ability Garden Program at Legacy Park will address the harmful effects of social isolation and limited recreational access experienced by adults living with diagnosed disabilities by providing year-round, wheelchair-accessible therapeutic gardening sessions that build wellness, independence, and community connection. Over one year, Trellis will deliver 93 small-group sessions (1.5 hours each) serving an estimated 50 participants plus 12 caregivers, offering free access to hands-on horticulture education, stress reduction, and fresh food opportunities in a supportive environment led by trained horticultural therapists. The impact is improved health and quality of life through increased motivation to leave home, stronger social networks, enhanced self-esteem, and practical skills in growing, harvesting, and preparing garden-grown food-while also reducing caregiver strain and expanding inclusive programming in DeKalb County.
FISCAL IMPACT:
An amount not to exceed $52,173 from 2026 District 2 ARPI (00202.582206.100.0000.0000) to Trellis Horticultural Therapy Alliance
