PURPOSE:

To accept grant award in the amount of $75,000 awarded by the State Justice Institute for the benefit of the DeKalb County Magistrate Court’s premier of the first county-wide Self-Help Center.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The grant funds will help ensure that the DeKalb County Magistrate Court utilizes the best practices in planning and implementation of a self-help center through collaboration with contracted national experts.  The Self-Help Center will serve the thousands of citizens in DeKalb County as they navigate complex court processes and cases in Magistrate Court.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The county is required to provide a 10% match of funds awarded.  The match in the amount of $7,500 in cash will be requested from the county.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To accept the grant funds in the amount of $75,000 from the State Justice Institute for the benefit of the DeKalb County Magistrate Court’s Self-Help Center.  To authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
