PURPOSE:

To consider accepting additional funds in the amount of $230,000 from the Georgia Department of Public Health, at No Cost to the County, for the DeKalb Maternal Infant & Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program and to appropriate the funds to the grant fund.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The DeKalb County MIECHV (Maternal, Infant & Early Childhood Home Visiting) Program connects families to parenting resources and a wide range of community services that improve child and family well-being. Families receive services through First Steps, and Parents as Teachers (PAT) Home Visiting Programs. This additional amount of $230,000 will be added to the initial amount of $603,856 that was approved on 9/26/2023 - Item # 2023-1080, bringing the grant total to $833,856. The additional funds will be used to hire two (2) new Parent Educators for the New American Pathways and Scottdale Early Learning organizations, purchase supplies, for the First Steps program, pay for training, resource directories and brochures. 

The grant period remains the same, that is, October 2023 to September 30,2024

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund because there is no match requirement.

Recommended Action

Accept the additional funds in the amount of $230,000 from the Georgia Department of Public Health for the DeKalb MIECHV Program; Appropriate all the funds to the Grant Fund; Authorize disbursements and Authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents
