PURPOSE:
To consider approving a contract between DeKalb County and the Georgia Department of Human Services to provide transportation to eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities who live in DeKalb. The contract for these services would be in effect from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. While the cost of services is $575,000, there will not be a fiscal impact to the General Fund because funds that will be used are already allocated from the Senior Citizens Grant Fund and the ARC Grant Award. This contract enables the County to reimburse the Georgia Department of Human Services for up to $575,000 worth of trips.

NEED/IMPACT:
Studies conducted by the Atlanta Regional Commission have identified transportation as the number one need for people living in the Atlanta Metropolitan Region. Seniors and individuals with disabilities have unique challenges with transportation that can significantly impact their quality of life. As the population continues to age, the need for reliable, safe transportation will increase. The DeKalb Human Services Department, Office of Aging Transportation has participated in the State Coordinated Transportation System since 2003. This partnership with the Georgia Department of Human Services has enabled the County to provide more than 2,000 transportation trips a month to eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities.
