PURPOSE:
To award thirty-seven (37) Human Services Grants for 2017 in an amount not to exceed $617,808. The grant period for all grants will be one year from the date of BOC approval.

NEED/IMPACT:
In the County's 2017 Adopted Budget, $617,808 was approved for Human Services Grants to support the work of local non-profits. The service areas designated for the awards include: Youth, Crisis Intervention, Child Welfare and Family, Elderly, Health & Human Services, Disability, Advocacy, Planning & Education, Cultural Arts and Historic Preservation.

Approximately, eighty (80) non-profit organizations attended the Department's annual Human Services Grants Orientation workshop this year. The Department received sixty (60) applications from non-profit agencies. Funding will be allocated to thirty-seven (37) organizations that demonstrated the ability to successfully provide services to DeKalb citizens. The Human Services Grant Awards will assist individuals and families with a variety of supports and services that will enhance their quality of life which will in turn lead to viable, sustainable neighborhoods and communities.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The transfer of funds from the General Fund to the Human Services Grant Fund will help avoid the delay of payments to the non-profit agencies. There is no fiscal impact, as this action only transfers already appropriated funds.
