PURPOSE:
To consider accepting a grant award in the amount of $612,636 from the Georgia Department of Public Health for the DeKalb County Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program and to appropriate the funds to the grant fund.

NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb County MIECHV Program connects families to parenting resources and a wide range of community services that improve child and family well-being. Families receive services through First Steps, Parents As Teachers (PAT) and an Early Head Start Home Based Option program. This home visiting model is an evidence-based approach that is available for families with more intensive needs. The grant award represents the 8th year that funding for this program has been offered to DeKalb County. The MIECHV Program greatly assists with the prevention of child abuse and neglect as well as promotes positive parenting and enhances child development and school readiness. The anticipated impact for this year includes the provision of services to 123 families in the PAT model, 24 families in the Early Head Start Home model, and 1,000 families through the First Steps program. Funding is for the period October 1, 2018- September 30, 2019.

FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund because there is no match requirement.
