PURPOSE:

To consider accepting a one-time Criminal Justice Coordinating Council award in the amount of $15,000 for space enhancement related to the already accepted Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Grant from CJCC; and

To authorize the CEO to execute all necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:

CJCC was awarded $3,000,000 under BJA’s 2017 Sexual Assault Initiative Grant to develop a cold case Metro-Atlanta Sexual Assault Task Force to respond to cases resulting from the testing of sexual assault kits identified under this project.  DeKalb was identified as a key partner in this initiative, along with Fulton and Cobb Counties. To most effectively collaborate on cold cases, Task Force personnel from all three jurisdictions will be assigned to one location, at the current Family Protection Center space at the DKPD Tucker headquarters. The B.O.C., on 3/27/2018, approved the acceptance of DeKalb’s portion of the SAKI grant funding.

CJCC has now approved a 1-time space improvement grant for the Tucker offices. The grant will cover necessary painting, carpet installation for donated carpet, and a small amount of needed furniture. The grant period is 5/15/2018 through 7/15/2018.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No additional funds are being requested at this time.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

Accept a one-time Criminal Justice Coordinating Council award in the amount of $15,000 for space enhancements tied to the already accepted Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Grant from CJCC; and Authorize the CEO to execute all necessary documents.
