PURPOSE:

To consider a resolution authorizing a special election referendum to allow the qualified voters of DeKalb County to decide whether to authorize the governing authority to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on premises beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays by holding a special election referendum on November 6, 2018.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

On May 8, 2018, Governor Deal signed into law Senate Bill 17 (“Brunch Bill”), which provides that counties and municipalities may allow the sale of alcoholic beverages for on premises consumption beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, but only if approved by qualified voters in a special election referendum. The special election referendum may be placed on the same ballot as the November 6, 2018 general election.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No additional fiscal impact.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

Staff recommends approving a resolution authorizing the qualified voters of DeKalb County to decide whether to authorize the governing authority to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on premises beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays by holding a special election referendum on November 6, 2018, and to authorize the DeKalb County Board of Registrations and Elections to issue the calls for such election.
