PURPOSE:
DeKalb County is allowed 14 representatives on the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Region 3 Advisory Council. This appointment will increase DeKalb County’s representation on the Advisory Council by filling a vacancy.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) has six regional advisory councils across the state of Georgia. The Region 3 Advisory Council covers the counties of Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale. Advisory Council members are appointed by each county and are family members, advocates for disability services, or local business leaders with an interest in mental health, developmental disabilities and addictive diseases.
Each regional advisory council engages in disability services planning within its region and may perform the following functions such as:
• Informing the department of local needs and priorities
• Recommending community improvements
• Providing input to the department regarding the local perspective of consumers, families and community stakeholders
• Encouraging prevention programs
