PURPOSE:

•To consider approving the FY18 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program Grant from the US   Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs; and 
•To consider accepting $100,000.00 from the Office of Justice Programs and appropriating that amount to the Grant Fund along with appropriating the required match of $25,000.00 to the match fund (04693.573053.274) for spending in compliance with the grantor’s requirements; and
•To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute the necessary documents.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD), DeKalb County Board of Health (DCBOH), and DeKalb Community Service Board (CSB) are combining resources to address the needs and police responses to people with mental illness (MI) and co-occurring mental illness with substance abuse (CMISA).  Funding will be used to strategically plan the use of resources for mental health concerns in DeKalb County to include the expansion of the Mobile Crisis Unit that pairs a police officer and a CSB psychiatric nurse in the mobile crisis patrol car. The DeKalb County Board of Health has been identified as a core partner to assist in the strategic planning efforts and review of existing protocols including but not limited to interagency agreements, screening, guidance for mental health calls for service and information sharing.  Morehouse College and/or Applied Research Services will assist with data collection, performance measurement, and evaluations
