PURPOSE:

To consider accepting and appropriating up to $3,459,660 from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) into project 104296 for construction of sidewalk on Flat Shoals Road, Henderson Road, and Salem Road; and
To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents for completion of the project.

NEED/IMPACT:

This project involves the construction of new sidewalk on Flat Shoals Road (2^nd Avenue to Whites Mill Road), Henderson Road (Henderson Mill Road to Lavista Road), and Salem Road (Panola Road to Fannin Road). The Board of Commissioners previously accepted $500,000 for right-of-way acquisition for this project on November 12, 2013. On May 23, 2017 the Board of Commissioners approved a resolution in support of requesting additional Federal-aid construction funds for this project. On November 14, 2017 the Board of Commissioners authorized the payment of $217,264 to Georgia Power for required distribution line relocations. The $3,459,660 in GDOT funds will go toward construction costs.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is an estimated local match of $2,053,468.24 for construction which will be paid for using SPLOST funds.

Recommended Action

To accept and appropriate up to $3,459,660 from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) into project 104296 for construction of sidewalk on Flat Shoals Road, Henderson Road, and Salem Road; and

To authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents for completion of the project.
