PURPOSE:

To consider accepting the award of $102,257.00 from U.S. Department of Justice to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States, and to compensate Justice Benefits, Inc. (JBI) in the amount of $15,388.55 from the proceeds of that award.

To consider appropriating $102,257.00 to the Grant Fund.

Authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The U.S Department of Justice, through the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), has awarded $102,257.00 to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States.

 

JBI does the research, gathers and analyzes the data, and completes all necessary information to be included in the application. The information is then returned to the Sheriff’s Office for Federal submission via the Internet through the Justice Department’s Grant Management System (GMS).

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

Accept the award of $102,257.00 from U.S. Department of Justice to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States, and to compensate Justice Benefits, Inc. in the amount of $15,338.55, from the proceeds of that award.

 

Appropriate $102,357.00 to the Grant Funds.

 

Authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
