PURPOSE:

To consider accepting an additional $23,500 for the annual Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to the District Attorney’s Office’s Victim Assistance Program for the grant year October 01, 2018 - September 30, 2019; and

To authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute any necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:

The VOCA grant funds ten District Attorney’s Victim Advocate positions who are essential to  providing a range of services to victims of crime required by the Crime Victims Bill of Rights,  O.G.C.A. 17-17-1, including but not limited to notification of court dates, accompaniment to court, emergency safety planning, counseling, and referrals to community agencies.  This is an additional award amount to the $624,506 previously accepted for this grant program. The additional grant funds and required cash match will alleviate a small portion of salary and benefit costs that were not previously covered by grant and required match, as well as provide training for the District Attorney’s victim advocacy staff.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The $5,875 required cash match is available in the District Attorney’s grant match budget. No additional funds are being requested.
