PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where “The chief executive shall nominate a person by sending a written notice to the commission,” CEO Thurmond is nominating Ms. Katherine Candler for appointment to the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission. This is a three (3) year term which will begin upon confirmation and expires July 31, 2022.
NEED/IMPACT:
The purpose and intent of the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission is to establish a uniform procedure for the protection, enhancement, perpetuation, and use of places, districts, sites, buildings, structures, objects, landscape features and works of art having special historical, cultural or aesthetic interest, or value. Ms. Katherine Candler has a master’s degree in historic landscape preservation and works in the preservation field. Her current job is as a staff historian at the Environmental Corporation of America, specializing in archeological and historical research. Her appointment to the commission will be an asset to the county and those who rely on the services provided through the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission.
