PURPOSE:
A routine pipe inspection of the sewer lines resulted in a camera and diversion flow plug getting stuck in a dilapidated segment of the pipe. The contractor does assessment work only, so they couldn't retrieve the camera from the pipe. Retrieval required excavation and pipe repair and/or replacement. The two items had to be removed immediately due to the potential for sewer backups in homes along Hideaway Drive and to prevent an environmental hazard of raw sewage discharging into South Fork Peachtree Creek. The on-call contractor was contacted and immediately responded to the emergency. The camera and flow diversion plug removal resulted in utilizing bypass pumping, to replace a 15" PVC sanitary sewer pipe from manhole to manhole, and a 15" x 6" Y-Joint (specially made and shipped from Macon). Additional services involved the clearing of easement, medium and large tree removal, and fence removal. The site restoration and erosion control included the installation and removal of 1,500 LF of silt fence, debris removal from the vicinity of the creek, surge stone and filter for construction entrance, seed and straw, and restoring the stream bank.
