PURPOSE:
The DeKalb County Solicitor - General’s office has launched a pilot program to address domestic violence in partnership with the South Precinct which has the highest number of domestic violence cases in DeKalb. In an effort to extend the program’s reach into the East Precinct (2nd highest number of domestic violence cases in DeKalb) and help address the challenge of domestic violence, Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson is designating funds to expand the domestic violence prevention initiative into the 5th Commission District.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Solicitor - General’s Office intends to use the additional funds on an Investigator, who will serve in a time-limited position. The Investigator will be assigned to provide the necessary and proper support to the Victim Advocate. The Victim Advocate and Investigator will act as second response personnel for many misdemeanor domestic violence cases.
More than one - third of the cases prosecuted by the DeKalb County Solicitor - General’s Office are domestic violence related.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Increase appropriations for the following account by the amount indicated below: Solicitor - General Fund - Transfer to Grant Fund (03810.611250.100.0000.0000) - $50,000 & Decrease appropriations for the following account by the amount indicated below: Non-Departmental - General Fund - Reserve for Appropriation (09110.579002.100.0000.0000) - $50,000
