PURPOSE:
To consider approving the project time extension to April 30, 2020 for the MARTA Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Traffic Signal Priority Control system for Candler Road and, Authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute the necessary documents.
NEED/IMPACT:
On January 8, 2019 the Board of Commissioners approved the attached Candler Road Bus Transit, Traffic Signal Priority Cooperative Sub-grant Agreement Accepting $519, 148.24 to reestablish the BRT project on Candler Road, our original, first in the nation project. The discretionary earmark in the amount of $519,148.24 represents 80% of the Section 5309 Grant Project funding total, with the remaining 20% provided from a local match. DeKalb County will provide the local match in the form of (in-kind) services. The project end date is November 29, 2019. The project is underway, but additional time is needed to install BRT equipment on the MARTA busses, and complete training on the system operation. The new project end date is April 30, 2020. This is a time extension only.
