PURPOSE:

Request to accept Subgrant Award A21-8-008 from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council in the amount not to exceed $134,621 with a 10% required county match to benefit the DeKalb County DUI Court Program.  The Program is fully certified through March 1, 2021.

NEED/IMPACT:

The grant funds are needed and will be used to enhance public safety by reducing recidivism of DUI offenders by breaking the cycle of addiction through a combination of individualized treatment, personal accountability and intensive court supervision to promote individual responsibility and citizenship and return a productive member back to the community. The funds will be used to defray the costs associated with the DUI Court Program’s operations, training, administration, transportation, drug screening and treatment.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding provided by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council in the amount not to exceed $134,621 begins July 1, 2020 and will end June 30, 2021.  At least 25% of the funding must be spent each quarter and a report submitted within 15 days of said quarter ending.  Date Funds and the DUI Court Operating Budget will be used to meet the required 10% match.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the resolution and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents to accept said award and to appropriate the award amount to a new grant fund to benefit the DeKalb County DUI Court Program.  COVID-19 has caused the State Legislature to issue a tentative award not to exceed $134,621. Upon the Commissioner’s approval the final award will be forwarded to the Chief Executive Officer to execute.
