PURPOSE:

To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute a supplemental right-of-way agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to extend the contract term from December 31, 2020 to December 31, 2022.

NEED/IMPACT:

The upgrade of 40 traffic signals in DeKalb County (PI# 0002669) is a joint GDOT and DeKalb County project to modernize the traffic signal equipment and communications in central DeKalb County in and around the cities of Avondale Estates and Decatur. On July 12, 2016 and June 26, 2018 the Board of Commissioners approved the acceptance of a total of $1,020,000 in GDOT funds for right-of-way acquisition needed for the project. County staff are currently acquiring the needed right-of-way and have closed on 41 of the 60 parcels.  Not all parcels are expected to be acquired by December 31, 2020, so GDOT has agreed to extend the contract term of the existing right-of-way agreement.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No additional cost. Time extension only.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute a supplemental right-of-way agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to extend the contract term from December 31, 2020 to December 31, 2022.
