PURPOSE:

To authorize the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department to apply for and receive funding from the State of Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning Bright from the Start Program for the implementation of the 2021 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The RPCA Department will provide breakfast and lunch to its summer day campers at nine DeKalb County facilities.  RPCA will also utilize this program to provide summer meals to approximately six additional non-profit entities throughout DeKalb County.  The program is scheduled to run from June 07, 2021 to July 30, 2021.

NEED/IMPACT:

During the school year, many children receive free and reduced meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).  When school recesses for the summer, these children are at risk of hunger.  The 2021 Summer Food Service Program will address this concern by providing two meals a day for those in need at the DeKalb County summer camps and other DeKalb County communities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Fiscal Year 2021 funding to be reimbursed by State of Georgia.  The County anticipates the 2021 program to not exceed $485,557.00.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the resolution and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents with the State of Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning Bright from the Start Program to apply, receive and implement the 2021 Summer Food Service Program.
