NEED/IMPACT:

In June 2021, The U.S. Department of Labor-Employment and Training Administration (DOLETA) awarded DeKalb County Juvenile Court $949,811 to administer the YouthBuild program.  The program is a community-based pre-apprenticeship program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24.

Funding will provide opportunities for youth to engage in vocational training, paid work experience, and completion of educational goals. Youth will also learn to be community leaders, and prepare for postsecondary training opportunities, including college, apprenticeships, and employment. Additionally, youth will receive significant support systems, such as a mentoring, follow-up education, employment, and personal counseling services, and participation in community service and civic engagement.

The grant period is July 1, 2021-October 31, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The award will provide additional grant funds to the Juvenile Court for programs and services.  Match will be In-Kind.
