PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where “The chief executive shall nominate a person by sending a written notice to the commission,” CEO Michael Thurmond is nominating Dr. James D. Vernor for reappointment to the DeKalb County Board of Tax Assessors. This is a six (6) year term which would begin January 1, 2022 and expire December 31, 2027.
NEED/IMPACT:
Dr. Vernor has served the DeKalb County Board of Assessors admirably and as stipulated in O.C.G.A. 48-5-292 (a) can “be reappointed to succeed himself as a member of the board” which he desires. Mr. Vernor is a Real Estate Valuation, Training and Forensic Consultant, a registered real property appraiser and a licensed real estate appraisal instructor. Dr. Vernor is a longstanding member of the Board of Tax Assessors and served as board chair in 1997, 2011 & 2012.
