PURPOSE:
To consider accepting grant funds in the amount of $242,634 from the Atlanta Regional Commission for home delivered meals for DeKalb seniors and to appropriate the funds to the grant fund.

NEED/IMPACT:
In December 2020, the 116th United States Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) to further address the economic impact of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. These funds were passed down from the State of Georgia to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), which then identified CAA funds to distribute to all its designated County Based Agencies (CBAs). The DeKalb Human Services Department's Office of Aging is the designated CBA for DeKalb County- responsible for the provision of congregate meals, home delivered meals, in-home services (personal care, respite, and homemaker) and transportation to seniors living in DeKalb County.

In October 2021, the County received notification of the award of Consolidated Appropriations Act funds in the amount of $242,634 from the Atlanta Regional Commission. These funds are designed to provide home delivered meals to seniors who are on the Wait List (not currently receiving services). The Human Services Department will have until June 30, 2022 to utilized these funds and it is estimated that one hundred and ninety (190) seniors will be served.
