PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where “The chief executive shall nominate a person by sending a written notice to the commission,” CEO Thurmond is nominating Jose Paniagua for appointment to the DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees. Mr. Paniagua will be filling a vacant seat. This is a four-year term which begins upon confirmation and continues through December 31, 2025.
NEED/IMPACT:
The operation of the DeKalb County Public Library is legally vested in the Board of Trustees under the provision of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Title 20, Chapter 5, Article 40. Per the Constitution and By-Laws of the DeKalb County Public Library eight (8) county appointees from the public at-large serve on the Board of Trustees along with two municipal appointees, the CEO and the Executive Assistant to the CEO. Appointees typically serve four (4) year terms and can be reappointed for a total of three (3) consecutive terms.
Mr. Paniagua is the Vice President and Treasurer for Inspire Brands, Inc. He lives in Brookhaven and serves on the Board of Directors for the Latin American Association as well as the Emory University Board of Visitors. Mr. Paniagua grew up in DeKalb County, graduating from Cross Keys High School. He attended Georgia State University for his BBA in Finance and Accounting and received his MBA in Finance from Emory University. Mr. Paniagua will bring considerable financial, business and leadership expertise to the Board of Trustees and the Library.
