PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where "The chief executive shall nominate a person by sending a written notice to the commission," CEO Thurmond is nominating Herbert McCoy for reappointment onto the DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees. The term would begin on January 1, 2022 and expire on December 31, 2025.
NEED/IMPACT:
The operation of the DeKalb County Public Library is legally vested in the Board of Trustees under the provision of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Title 20, Chapter 5, Article 40. Per the Constitution and By-Laws of the DeKalb County Public Library eight (8) county appointees from the public at-large serve on the Board of Trustees along with two municipal appointees, the CEO, and the Executive Assistant to the CEO. Appointees typically serve four (4) year terms and can be reappointed for a total of three (3) consecutive terms.
Mr. McCoy is a resident of Ellenwood and currently serves as Vice President at Ameris Bank in Decatur. Mr. McCoy is a longtime patron and supporter of DeKalb County Public Library, having served a term on the DeKalb Library Foundation Board before becoming a Trustee. During his time as a trustee, Mr. Mccoy has served one year as Treasurer and two years as Co-Chair. Mr. McCoy's financial and business experience have proven valuable to the Board of Trustees. Mr. McCoy is active in his community and profession with participation in business organizations and non-profits. He is a graduate of Leadership DeKalb and a member of the Rotary Club of Decatur.
