SUBJECT:

Title

Commission District(s): All Commission Districts

To Authorize the Community Service Aide’s (CSA’s) to Direct Traffic When Needed

Body

Information Contact: Chief Mirtha V. Ramos

Phone Number: (770) 724-7440

PURPOSE:

To authorize the Community Service Aide’s (CSA’s) to direct traffic when needed; and
To approve and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:

The Community Service Aide’s (CSA’s) assist sworn officers on a daily basis with non-urgent calls.  Their ability to assist with directing traffic would be beneficial to the Department by allowing officers to handle more serious calls.  Ga Law 35-1-11 permits a police chief, with the approval of the local governing authority, to authorize nonsworn personnel to assist in traffic control, provided they receive at least one hour of related training approved by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.  Our CSA’s have received three hours of training, proper equipment, and practical exercises in this area by our training instructors.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents....
