PURPOSE:

To consider accepting $2,000,000.00 for the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit consisting of: Superior Court, District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, and Clerk of Superior Court. The Grant was awarded by the State ARPA to handle the backlog of serious violent felony cases due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Funding is used personnel as discussed in FAB January 27th, 2022, meeting. County Match for operational expenses in the amount $395,000.00 (see attached ARPA budget form).

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The Judicial Council of Georgia Ad Hoc Committee on American Rescue Plan Act Funding (ARPA Committee) has awarded $2,000,000.00 to the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit consisting of: Superior Court, District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, and Clerk of Superior Court to handle the back log of serious violent felony cases due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. Funding will be used for personnel expenses (15 full time positions and up to 40 sheriffs reservist.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for all personnel costs is provided by the American Rescue Plan Act Funding in the amount of $2,000,000.00.  Funding must be expended by December 31, 2022.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents. To accept $2,000,000.00 for the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit and appropriate the amount to a new Grant Fund.
