PURPOSE:
To consider accepting additional grant funds in the amount of $210,000 from the Atlanta Regional Commission for
additional congregate meals and transportation for DeKalb seniors during the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic and to appropriate the funds to the grant fund.

NEED/IMPACT:
In 2020, the 116th United States Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security (CARES) Act to address the economic impact of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. CARES Act Funds were passed down from the State of Georgia to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), which then identified CARES Act funds to distribute to all its designated County Based Agency's (CBAs).
The DeKalb Human Services Department's Office of Aging is the designated CBA for DeKalb County- responsible for the provision of congregate meals, home delivered meals, in-home services (personal care, respite, and homemaker) and transportation to seniors living in DeKalb. If approved, the newly allocated ARC funds of $210,000 will bring the total CARES Act funding that DeKalb has received to date to $1,038,472.74. This award, if approved, must be spent by September 30, 2022, by the Department and it is estimated that 195 additional seniors will be served.

FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund- as this grant award comes from the Atlanta Regional Commission's
CARES Act allocation and does not require a match.
