PURPOSE:

To approve the appropriation of $20,000 from the America Rescue Plan grant funds assigned to the account reserved for District 7 to the DeKalb Section of the National Council of Negro Women for the Kids Against COVID-19 Academy to mitigate the public health emergency created by the pandemic.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The $20,000 appropriation will be used for educational programming and activities for the Kids Against COVID-19 Academy, an initiative of the DeKalb Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). The DeKalb NCNW will partner with the CDC, scientists, artists, computer programmers and educators to provide STEM education and programming for children between the ages of 10 - 15.  Children will learn how to create thermometers, carry out antibody testing and programming. Upon the completion of the program, students receive a certificate that designates them as a COVID-19 Ambassador.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

To appropriate an amount not to exceed $20,000 from POETA Account # 105744.63258.521209.01.07.602479 to the DeKalb Section of the National Council of Negro Women to mitigate the public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
