PURPOSE:

Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where “The chief executive shall nominate a person by sending a written notice to the commission,” CEO Thurmond is nominating Bettye Davis for appointment to the DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees. Ms. Davis will be filling the unexpired term held by Dr. Curtis Clark. This is a four-year term which begins upon confirmation and continues through December 31, 2024.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The operation of the DeKalb County Public Library is legally vested in the Board of Trustees under the provision of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Title 20, Chapter 5, Article 40. Per the Constitution and By-Laws of the DeKalb County Public Library eight (8) county appointees from the public at-large serve on the Board of Trustees along with two municipal appointees, the CEO and the Executive Assistant to the CEO. Appointees typically serve four (4) year terms and can be reappointed for a total of three (3) consecutive terms.

 

Ms. Davis is recently retired from DeKalb County Government where she has held a number of positions during her fifteen-year tenure, most recently being the Director of the Lou Walker Senior Center. Prior to her time in DeKalb, she was the Executive Director of the Fulton Housing Authority and Deputy Executive Director for the Atlanta Housing Authority. Ms. Davis holds a MA in Urban Studies and a BA in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. She is a graduate of Leadership DeKalb. An avid library supporter, Ms. Davis lives in Stone Mountain.
