PURPOSE:
To appropriate funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act to Grady Memorial Hospital.
NEED/IMPACT:
The regional healthcare network has been strained by multiple market forces since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a national labor shortage of nurses and other healthcare professionals, which is even worse in the State of Georgia. Pay rates for nurses continue growing in response to the labor shortage, which places additional financial stress on Grady. The recently announced closure of the Atlanta Medical Center will place further pressure on Grady’s capacity.
This action appropriates $8,000,000 to Grady Memorial Hospital to help cover the cost of contracted nursing services.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This agenda item appropriates $8,000,000 from the county’s allocation of American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds.

To approve appropriation of funding to Grady Memorial Hospital and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
