PURPOSE:

To approve the appropriation of $50,000 from the American Rescue Plan grant funds assigned to the account reserved for District 7 to the DeKalb County Justice Court to assist with programming and interventions to address educational disparities for minority youth, connect youth and families with resources and services, provide the skills youth need to become employable, and implement strength-based activities that reinforce positive youth development.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

COVID-19 has heavily impacted every facet of life since March 2020. Many families have experienced a

loss of income, housing insecurity, a disruption in school and essential services, as well as experiencing a

global health crisis. As a result, DeKalb County Juvenile Justice Council, has expanded its services to

support youth and families in the court, school, and the community. With the Council’s assistance, DeKalb

Juvenile Court is committed to reducing crime and recidivism in our community by at risk and high-risk

youth.  In partnership, the Juvenile Court and Juvenile Justice Council will mitigate the effects of COVID-19 the youth and families have experienced in DeKalb County. Interventions will focus on addressing educational disparities for minority youth, connect youth and families with resources and services, provide the skills youth need to become employable, and implement strength-based activities that reinforce positive youth development.                     

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

To appropriate an amount not to exceed $50,000 from POETA Account # 105744.63258.521209.01.07.602479 to the DeKalb County Juvenile Court to provide programming for at-risk youth to mitigate the public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
