PURPOSE:
To provide notification to the Board of Commissions of the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department’s application to the Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division for a Recycling, Waste Reduction and Diversion Grant in the amount of $1,379,490. RPCA also seeks approval to accept the grant if the application is successful.
NEED/IMPACT:
The RWD grant funds will be used for site preparation and construction of the DeKalb CHaRM facility at 1225 Columbia Drive, Decatur Georgia. The County has entered into an agreement with Live Thrive, a nonprofit, to manage and operate the CHaRM facility. The facility will receive hard to recycle items, divert waste going to the landfills, and manage an environmental conservation education program to encourage recycling and responsible/sustainable waste reduction.
FISCAL IMPACT:
If successful, the County will receive grant funds up to $1,379,490. Live Thrive will contribute $375,000 to the project.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To provide notification to the Board of Commissions of the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department’s application to the Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division for a Recycling, Waste Reduction and Diversion Grant in the amount of $1,379,490. RPCA also seeks approval to accept the grant if the application is successful; and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
