This District 6 2023 scope of work will narrow the focus and support DeKalb Green New Deal Summit by operating a housing tract this Fall along with an educational tour series focused on Cottage Courts and Missing Middle housing. These engagements will provide community outreach and education regarding the engagement process around pocket neighborhoods, cottage courts, conservation communities, and accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

NEED/IMPACT:

The pandemic has continued to horribly impact housing, the issues of homelessness, pre-pandemic are exasperated beyond crisis for seniors, under, and unemployed.  We are in a dangerous cyclone of an affordable and accessible housing crisis. As leaders, we see firsthand how creating and sustaining affordable housing can positively impact individuals, families, and our community.

Since 2021, Microlife Institute has been a critical resource to District 6 collaborating in research, community engagement events, strategic planning and advice, in an effort toward goals of improving housing policy, use of space, affordable, sustainable housing options, and how collectively we can rethink how we utilize space inside the walls of a structure and beyond while building community and social conscience, in order to strengthen the community and offer more abundant housing options.
