PURPOSE:
The COVID -19 pandemic has severely impacted students across the County, creating challenges with milestone moments such as graduation, which should not be a time of stress for families of graduating Seniors. According to Education Week (2021) “The share of recent graduates who feel economic stress rose from 57 percent to 65 percent from 2000 to 2021”. This allocation will aid with graduations fees to graduating high school students who have been economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and who live in qualified census tracks.
NEED/IMPACT:
To provide for graduation and cap and gown fees for graduating seniors who live in qualified census tracks.
FISCAL IMPACT:
To appropriate the following amounts to the following schools:
• Arabia Mountain High School - $5,000
• Lithonia High School - $5,000
• Martin Luther King, Jr. High School - $5,000
• Miller Grove High School - $5,000
• Redan High School - $5,000
For a total allocation of $25,000 from the District 5 Reserve For Appropriations Account
