PURPOSE:
This proposed resolution to reappropriate the $265,000 from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to the "John Jay College" program for violence interrupters, instead directs a reappropriation of these unspent funds towards the newly established Department of Human Services violence interrupter program.
NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County Government recognizes that violence is a public health issue and is committed to supporting efforts to mitigate violence and protect our citizens.
DeKalb County Government is committed to supporting innovative and creative approaches to understand leading causes of violence, and to advocate for, and help implement strategies to reduce people's exposure to violence - to keep them safe and prevent lifelong harm to health.
$265,000 of ARP funding has previously been allocated to the John Jay College program for a violence interrupters program, however this program is no longer operational and the allocated ARP funds remain unspent. DeKalb County has received a federal grant from the Department of Justice to establish a new violence interrupter program.
This resolution supports reappropriating previously allocated American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds for the "John Jay College" program for violence interrupters and instead directing these funds towards the newly established Department of Human Services violence interrupter program.
