PURPOSE:
This resolution proposes adopting a process that results in 13A board appointments for the DeKalb Community Service Board, DeKalb Board of Health, and the Decide DeKalb Development Authority Board, and the DeKalb County Board of Commission Committee Chairmanships to rotate every two years.
NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County Government respects that any appointment as stewards of the public good, whether social sector organizations or commission chairmanship are called on to embrace and celebrate our common humanity, and the inherent worth of all people. It further comprehends the impact these board make on decisions to organization, missions, and the community. DeKalb County is fortunate to have many appointees that have dedicated years of service to DeKalb County and to the best interest of our citizens.
Since many of these positions have had little or no change, this resolution supports the importance of board rotation or refreshment and the worthwhile goals, including bringing to the board new talent; bringing diverse perspectives, whether it's age, gender, ethnicity, or something else can also be achieved through time-restricted board appointments.
Rotating board appointments can also help prevent any one individual from having too much influence or control over a board's operations as well as promotes opportunities for leadership and professional development in all aspects of public service, be it community members or county commissioners.
