PURPOSE:
Economic development and a school system play a pivotal role in the overall health of a community. This effects community resources, the housing market, crime, blight, and every consumer related industry that lives, visits, or passes through. This resolution supports the need to have a representative from the DeKalb County school system, appointed by the CEO, to the Decide DeKalb Board as an advocate and liaison that bridges the two most influential conduits that impact the short and long-range future of DeKalb County.

NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County School system plays a vital role in preparing the future workforce, fostering community development, and a significant determinant of a range of measures both short and long-term considerations for quality of life, well-being and overall economic development and growth. These factors are critical for companies and businesses considering relocating or expanding in our County.

DeKalb County Government recognizes that the decisions and actions of the Authority (Decide DeKalb), including but not limited to tax abatements and other fiscal incentives to attract and retain businesses, can have significant implications on the fiscal health of the DeKalb County School System, potentially affecting its ability to provide high-quality education and services to the students and families of DeKalb County.
