PURPOSE:
To consider accepting and appropriating up to $800,000 from the Georgia Department of Transportation for design of sidewalk improvements on Flat Shoals Parkway into a new CIP account;
To consider reserving $200,000 of SPLOST funds from line 1B - Federal and State Transportation Project Match Funds for Transportation Purposes; and
To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents for completion of this project.
NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County has been awarded $800,000 of Congressionally Directed Spending for sidewalk improvements on Flat Shoals Parkway (SR 155) from Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road. There is currently limited sidewalk on this section of road with limited opportunities to safely cross. This project will provide for continuous sidewalk on both sides of the road and possibly additional protected crossings.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The local match of $200,000 is proposed to be funded from SPLOST line 1B. Additional Federal funds will be sought for the right-of-way and construction phases. Additional matching funds will be needed for those phases.
