PURPOSE:

To approve the appropriation of $100,000 from the American Rescue Plan grant funds assigned to the account reserved for District 7 to the MEGA International Legacy Foundation, Inc. for the development of the Pathways To Peace youth non-violence intervention program.

NEED/IMPACT:

COVID-19 has had profound and lasting impacts on communities in DeKalb County and across the United States, exacerbating social disparities and magnifying pre-existing issues. Among the many concerns are rising incidents of violence and mental health problems that pose significant challenges in youth populations. The Pathways To Peace program will address these pressing matters through a comprehensive, evidence-based, non-violence intervention program. The program will counter the root causes of increased violence and promote a culture of non-violence, cooperation, and respect among youth in DeKalb County.

FISCAL IMPACT:

To appropriate an amount not to exceed $100,000 from POETA Account # 105744.63258.521209.01.07.602479 to the MEGA International Legacy Foundation, Inc. to mitigate the negative impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
