PURPOSE:

To approve the donation of two (2) of DeKalb County’s surplus vehicles - unit numbers 1021 (2005 Ford Explorer) and 12624 (2009 Chevrolet Impala) to Warren Technical School, 3075 Alton Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341.

NEED/IMPACT:

Warren Technical School prepares students with self-advocacy, life and employability skills through research-based instruction and career exploration.  This vehicle will be utilized as a part of the school’s automotive curriculum to provide hands on experience to students learning automotive skills.  DeKalb Fleet Management has over 20 years of partnering with Warren Tech to provide work-based learning to Warren Tech’s automotive students.  A more advanced model vehicle is needed as a part of their classroom training for the students to gain more practical knowledge in their studies of automotive repairs. Warren Tech students work at DeKalb County Fleet Management through a work-based learning program, and some have been hired after completion of their training.  This vehicle will allow Warren Tech to conduct hands on training for students and enhance the level of training performed by the school and DeKalb County Fleet Management.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The value of the two (2) vehicles totals $1963.00 (Ford Explorer $630) and (Chevrolet Impala $1333). The vehicles are already in Fleet’s surplus inventory due to age and condition and no additional cost is involved in releasing these units.
