PURPOSE:
To approve the appropriation of $20,000 from the American Rescue Plan grant funds assigned to the account reserved for District 7 to the DeKalb County Juvenile Justice Court to mitigate the negative impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
NEED/IMPACT:
COVID-19 has heavily impacted many youth in DeKalb County, including increased incidents of violence, shootings, and deaths. The DeKalb Juvenile Court continues to expand serves to assist the most vulnerable youth, including those who are homeless, in foster care, have disabilities, or speak little English. Through the DeKalb County Juvenile Justice Court and the DeKalb County Juvenile Justice Council, youth and families will receive the additional support needed. Interventions will focus on addressing educational disparities for minority youth, connect youth and families with resources and services, provide the skills youth need to become employable, and implement strength-based activities that reinforce positive youth development.
FISCAL IMPACT:
To appropriate an amount not to exceed $20,000 from POETA Account # 105744.63258.521209.01.07.602479 to the DeKalb County Juvenile Justice Court to mitigate the negative impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
