PURPOSE:
To appropriate $7,500.00 from the 2023 Reserves for Appropriation for District 6 to support Out of Hand Theater's project to develop a theater and video-based program to promote affordable housing in Metro Atlanta and dispel common affordable housing myths.

NEED/IMPACT:
Housing is a basic human need. But a lack of affordable housing to buy or rent is fueling a global housing crisis and for many the cost of housing has superseded the net household income. A shortage of land, lending, labor and materials since the financial crisis in 2008 are the main causes of the US housing shortage, driving up costs and cutting profit margins builders can make. Because of this, demand has outstripped supply, breeding profit to supersede humanity. Unaffordable housing also fuels families to live in conditions that are harmful to their health, safety and prosperity or homelessness.
Out of Hand Theater will partner with Dekalb County Commissioner Ted Terry, MicroLife Institute, Kronberg Urbanists + Architects, ARC, Abundant Housing Atlanta, and YIMBY Action Atlanta to develop a theater and video-based program to promote affordable housing in Metro Atlanta and dispel common affordable housing myths.
