PURPOSE:
To appropriate $11,500 from District 6 ARP funding to the DeKalb Community Service Board for the Jail In-reach program for an aftercare mental health professional.
NEED/IMPACT:
Many DeKalb citizens have faced severe mental health issues in the last several years due to COVID-19 and insecurities in housing, food, utility assistance and healthcare needs. Those returning to our communities from jails are no different, and supportive aftercare assistance creates a more successful re-entry into our communities. DBHDD is funding four new 1-year pilot Jail In-reach programs. DBHDD reached out to the DeKalb Community Service Board to take on the pilot program given that the CSB's current SAMSHA CMHC grant program was ending in September 2023. Due to the importance and impact of the program, Commissioner Ted Terry and Commissioner Michelle Long Spears are supplementing $23,000 from ARP funding for the next program year, October 2023- October 2024.
The total funding currently available is $165,724, and this, combined with the $23,000 from District 6 and District 2 ARP funds will bring the total close to the $200,000 needed to continue the current program for another year.
