PURPOSE:

To seek authorization from the Board of Commissioners to approve the attached Environmental Health fee adjustments.

The DeKalb County Board of Health (DCBOH) Environmental Health Division oversees food safety, swimming pools and spas, West Nile Virus/Argo virus prevention, tourist accommodations, septic systems, public health hazard investigations, lead poisoning prevention programs, and body crafting.  The DCBOH Environmental Health Division currently permits over 4,000 facilities throughout DeKalb County.

NEED/IMPACT:

DCBOH Environmental Health fees were last adjusted on July 1, 2007.  There has been significant population growth in DeKalb County since 2007.  In addition, the number of permitted facilities has increased by over 60% over the past 16 years.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The fee adjustment will result in approximately $394,505 in increased revenue that will allow the DCBOH to fund four additional Environmental Health inspector positions.  The addition of four inspectors will result in the ability to complete an additional 1,280 routine inspections per year.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

Approve the DCBOH Environmental Health fee adjustments.
