PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where “The chief executive shall nominate a person,” CEO Thurmond is nominating Ms. Andrena Shirley for appointment to Post #8 onto the DeKalb Community Service Board, which holds a three-year term. Ms. Shirley will be replacing Mr. John Bushfield who has moved out of DeKalb County. The term will start upon confirmation and will expire on June 30, 2025.
NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb Community Service Board provides mental health, developmental disability, and addictive
diseases services at its facilities in DeKalb County. As stipulated in the DeKalb Community Service Board
bylaws, the county governing authority shall appoint at least one of its appointments to be “a consumer of
disability services, child psychiatrist, family member of a consumer, advocate for disability services, or a local
leader or businessperson with an interest in mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictive diseases.”
Mr. John Bushfield’s reappointment to the board would be an asset to the county and those who rely on the
services provided through the DeKalb Community Service Board. Ms. Shirley is a well credentialed special education teacher with DeKalb County Board of Education and has family members who received services.
