PURPOSE:
To adopt a resolution requesting that the Governing Authority of DeKalb County, Georgia provide annual funding to DeKalb Pro Bono.
NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb Pro Bono is a nonprofit that provides free legal help to low-income individuals in DeKalb County, GA. DeKalb Pro Bono represent individuals that make 3 times the poverty level who cannot afford an attorney. The organization has assisted more than 12,000 clients with civil, legal matters. DeKalb Pro Bono is staffed by a network of volunteer lawyers to who provides legal support and representation. More than 1000 lawyers have given their time to benefit DeKalb communities. Due to the increase in a consistent and steady demand for legal assistance by DeKalb County resulting from evictions, landlord/ tenant issues, domestic and family violence, family, and other legal matters, yearly funding is being requested to handle increased services, the need for increased full-time staffing, and additional fixed costs.

Recommended Action
To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
