PURPOSE:
State law allows counties to object to annexations under certain circumstances. DeKalb County received notice from the City of Chamblee on or about October 31, 2023 of its intent to act on a proposed annexation petition via the sixty percent (60%) method submitted by Bill Blumberg. The Petition seeks to annex approximately 710 acres, including publicly owned land, Embry Village and the Mercer University campus. The County Attorney and relevant County staff are investigating grounds for a potential objection to the proposed annexation.
The County anticipates providing the elected officials with a substitute item containing specific grounds for the objection for adoption and approval at the Board of Commissioners meeting on December 12, 2023.
NEED/IMPACT:
This item will protect the health, safety and welfare interests of the County and its taxpayers.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Not known at this time.
