PURPOSE:

To consider accepting the annual Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council in the amount of $79,165 for the District Attorney’s Office for the grant year January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2024; and

To consider the continuation of the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Investigator position funded by the grant; and

To authorize the CEO to execute all necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:

The VAWA Grant’s purpose is to enhance services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. The District Attorney’s Office has funded an investigator through this grant for several years. The award was increased this year to fund a temporary, contract Victim Advocate position housed in the D.A.’s SAKI (Sexual Assault Kit Initiative) Unit.

The required match funds of $79,165  and additional funds required to sustain the investigator position are maintained in 03910.573053.100 and are included at the 2023 level in the D.A’s 2024 budget request.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Match funds have been included in the D.A’s FY 2024 budget.
